Getting started with ShopPress

ShopPress checks every product image in your Shopify store and fixes what hurts search traffic, Google Shopping and sales. Every change shows a preview first and can be undone. Everything in the app can also be done by your own AI assistant (MCP), and you can add your own features with plugins.

1. Install

Install ShopPress from the Shopify App Store and approve the permissions. ShopPress asks only for products and files at first; plugins ask for more only when you need them. The app opens inside your Shopify admin.

2. Run your first audit

Open Overview and press Run first audit. ShopPress reads every product image without changing anything. Large stores take a few minutes; the audit runs in the background, so you can leave the page. When it finishes you get:

  • a score from 0 to 100 for your store and for every image
  • a list of problems by type, with how to fix each one

Open Image problems to see the images, worst first, filtered by problem.

3. Fix in bulk

Every fix works the same way:

  1. Press Preview. Nothing changes yet.
  2. Check the list. Every row has a checkbox; use Select all / none.
  3. Press Apply to selected.
  4. A green message confirms it, with a link to History & undo.

The fixes:

  • Fix alt text: writes alt text from a pattern such as {title} – image {n}. Only missing, too short or file-name alt text is replaced; good descriptions are never overwritten.
  • Tidy images: product shots on a plain background are trimmed, centred and made square. Lifestyle photos are left alone. The original file is kept.
  • Variant photos: each colour or size gets its own photo, matched by alt text and file name.

Big batches run in the background. The History & undo page shows their progress.

4. Undo anything

History & undo lists every change batch. Undo puts the old values (or original image files) back. Restore points are snapshots of your images taken automatically before every bulk change; you can also make one any time, compare it with your store and restore everything or single products.

5. Use your own AI (optional)

Open AI connection (MCP), create a token and add ShopPress as a custom connector in Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client. Then just ask: "Audit my product images and fix the missing alt text." See Connect your AI (MCP).

6. Make it yours

  • Modules: switch features on or off.
  • Themes: dark mode and colour themes for the app.
